You asked me where I’d gone
My body is here
Yet my mind, my essence is masked
Removed to a nightmare of my own creation
I am a shell
Unrecognizable
Infected with lack and unworthiness
Broken
You asked me again, where are you?
And somehow, somewhere in the depths of my despair
I heard you
And finally, I dared ask the question too
Where am I?
And then I heard me, the real me
I’m still here, I said
Underneath it all
Below the judgements
Buried by old paradigms
Suffocated by fear
Chasing old expectations
I’m here, I’m here, I’m here
And then I asked, who am I?
And who would I be if I believed in myself?
I would step into the real me
I would no longer be a sidekick to my own life
I would no longer play the victim
I would no longer let the past dictate my future
And so I said, it is done
I believe
I am returning to my wants
To my dreams
To my growth
I am unafraid to shine
To show the real me
I am returning to myself
I am able, and I am willing
To be me
