In the depths of a long Canadian winter, I started something that combines my love of books, walks, and connecting with people:
Book & Trail Club, a free gathering for parents of teens and tweens who are interested in fresh air, fresh perspectives, and peer support.
This month is the third instalment of this community event, and I’m joined by my friend Bonnie Chan who is co-hosting the outing with me.
So if you’re a fellow book and nature-loving parent, come and join us! It’s a small group gathering to encourage supportive sharing and deep conversations.
And before you tell me you don’t have time to read a book, hear me out.
I know parents are busy. We have the best of intentions but sometimes we just don’t get to our ever-growing “to be read” pile of books.
The good news?
This is a book club where you don’t need to “finish the assignment.” All you need is curiosity and an open heart. Your guides (Bonnie and I) will have read the book, and we’ll bring some key points and reflection prompts with us. The book helps provide a theme for the conversations during the gathering.
And if you want to dig deeper before or after the event? The book we choose is accessible through your local library or on ebook / audio apps too.
The bad news?
Well, there really isn’t a downside. When parents get together to support each other, good things happen. And being outside, moving, conversing, being present, and away from our screens? That’s always a plus!
What do you say?
Join us on Sunday, May 17th for the in-person event in Toronto, or the virtual chat on Tuesday, May 26th.

Did you know that there are seven types of rest? The Book & Trail Club is a way for parents to “rest” from their regular day to day lives (most notably emotional and sensory rest, with mental, physical and social rest sprinkled in too). Curious how that can be?
